Farewell to a Voice now silent.

I wanted to take a moment to honor the talent of Luciano Pavorotti. He died yesterday at the age of 71 years old from pancreatic cancer. He retired from opera in 2004, but his influence shall continue. Most people will know him from singing, Nessun Dorma.
Listening to one station they credited him for bringing opera to the mainstream by singing with popular stars. That was not entirely accurate, since he was very critical of Placido Domingo for singing Perhaps Love with John Denver. Eventually he realized what good that partnership did for the world of music and he followed in the footsteps of his accomplished friend/rival. Although I prefer how personable Domingo is, there is no denying the power and love of art that his great man held in his voice. I am sad to see it leave us in this life, and I rejoice in knowing that perhaps his voice is joining those of other great talents that have gone before.
